License
You must hold a current license to practice podiatric medicine, and under no current disciplinary orders of suspension, restriction, probation or supervision.
Examination
You must take and pass the ACCPPS' written certification examination, which is administered twice yearly in Livonia, Michigan. The examination consists of multiple choice and essay questions. The full day examination covers both primary podiatric medicine and podiatric surgery. You are required to show two forms of personal identification, one of which must be government issued, photographic identification, at the examination site to gain entry.
Case Studies
You must have some minimum level of surgical experience. This experience is documented in the form of surgical case studies. Details of case study documentation are provided on the reverse side of this form.
Residency Training
If you graduated from one of the Colleges of Podiatric Medicine after 1991, you must have completed one year of postdoctoral training in an approved residency program.
Personal Interview
The ACCPPS Board of Directors may, at its discretion, require you to undergo a personal interview by a Director. Such interview may be taken without notice, at any time or place, in person or by telephone, except that you shall not be required to undertake special travel for such interview.
Application
You must complete the ACCPPS' application, sign both the factual representations and acknowledgment sections, and submit it before the published deadline to sit for the examination of choice. You must also sign the Authorization to Release Information thereby enabling us to obtain verification of your precertification credentials.
Endorsement
If you have taken the written certification examination, or obtained the approval of another certification board for surgical cases submitted, you may be qualified to obtain credit for that examination or those case studies. Call the ACCPPS to find out if your examination or case studies qualify for endorsement. Endorsable cases must meet the case ageing requirements established by the ACCPPS.
Recertification
In order to maintain your certification, you must be recertified every five years, clocked from the date of your written certification examination. Recertification is based on receiving favorable review on your presentation of documentation on ten of your own cases, and oral discussion, grand rounds style, on two of those cases selected by the board.
